One of the greatest vulnerabilities of a small company is lack of management bandwidth. The difference in terms of accountability to the organization, commitment & initiative there is mostly a big gap between the founders & the next level. This becomes one of the greatest roadblock in organization effectiveness & growth. For several years I was not very effective as I ended up doing more things that I should not have doing in the first place. Failing to create second leaders cost us very dearly. In the later years, I become sensitive to this short coming I not only spent time in attracting the right senior management talent but also in nurturing them, specially since some of them were not even from the IT industry. Soon this turned out to be a great investment in time as I was for the first time able to devote more than 80% of my time in my real strength areas.
