Books

I have been an avid reader for the last 40 years. Reading has been one of my greatest access to knowledge, entertainment & evolution. Form popular fiction to classics, Harrold Robbins to Kafka & Solzhenitsyn……. I have read with passion. In the recent year my intrigue for life has taken me to non-fiction, reading of scriptures like Bhagwat Gita, Upanishads, It has also drawn me, to some of The greatest spiritual scientists like J Krishnamurthy, Aurobindo & above all Osho that I consider one of the greatest souls that come to our planet in the last 100 years.

Very often many of us want to read but do not know what. The objective of this section is to share what I have discovered about some of greatest & most interesting books that have been written. This may open some doors for readers.

Some great books I come across:

The Prophet

– By Kahlil Gibran

This masterpiece from Kahlil Gibran has become one of the greatest classics of our time. Chicago Post said, “Cadenced & vibrant with feeling, The words of Kahlil Gibran bring to one’s ears The majestic rhythm of Ecclesiastes”. It is an expression of the deepest impulses of man’s heart & mind. With very little written in a page (It is more like poetry than prose), each one can serve as a guide for various mysteries & issues in life. A great book for random reading to keep you in tune with your deeper self….

You Can Heal Your Life

– By Louise Hay

This is perhaps one of the top 5 books you can lay your hands on in “Self-healing” category. It offers major insights into the relationship between mind & the body. It can profoundly alter one’s awareness of the impact that the mind has on our health & well-being. It offers powerful keys to understand the roots of our physical diseases & discomfort, along with solutions.

The Pillars of Consciousness

– By Osho

As more people begin to define themselves as “Spiritual” rather than religious – often dropping out of organized religions in search of a more open & individual approach to the search, the eastern traditions have held a special appeal.
Unlike religions that were born in the middle east – Judaism, Christianity, and Islam – most eastern approaches to spirituality place little or no emphasis to develop one’s own sense of the sacred – or, in the word of Buddha, to “be a light into yourself”. This book explores four major streams of eastern wisdom as seen through the understanding of a contemporary mystic Buddha, Zen, Tao & Tantra. Written by one of the best known & most provocative contemporary mystics of the last century, it takes you on a journey of understanding that cannot be taught but only experienced.

Pranayama, The Art & Science

 Dr. H R Nagendra

This little nugget, relatively unknown to the world is one of the most profound bridges between physical & spiritual science. Written by an ex NASA scientist it is one of the most fascinating explorations of how science & spirituality are quests for the same goal – “To fathom the secrets of the universe & beyond”. It examines one of the greatest secret keys available to mankind to unlock your deeper self, beyond physical health & wellbeing. The “Art & science of pranayama”, reveals the most enchanting powerful breathing technique ever discovered.

Lust for Life

 Irving Stone

The classic, bestselling biographical novel of Vincent Van Gogh Truly called by The New York Times “A story of excruciating power.”

Since its initial publication in 1934, Irving Stone’s Lust for Life has been a critical success, a multimillion-copy bestseller, and the basis for an Academy Award-winning movie.

It is the story of Vincent Van Gogh—brilliant painter, passionate lover, and alleged madman. His dramatic life, his fevered loves for both the highest-born women and the lowest prostitutes, and his paintings—for which he was damned before being proclaimed a genius. The novel takes us from his desperate days in a coal mine in southern Belgium to his dazzling years in the south of France, where he knew the most brilliant artists). Finally, it shows us Van Gogh driven mad, tragic, and triumphant at once. No other novel of a great man’s life has so fascinated the public for generations.
